Cat Hair Loss serious?
We took in a stray cat this last winter. Just about a week ago, she started losing fur in large patches where the fur had become matted. Her whole chest ended up being bald! (She has very long fur and she gets into burs. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to remove them.) She had had a a lot of those mats since fall. We have taken her to our local animal shelter so she can get some medical attention and be adopted. (We currently have several cats of our own.)
I was wondering if we should be concerned with what the stray cat had being contagious. The lady that took her in at the shelter totally freaked out when she saw how much fur she was missing.
She has been under stress lately. We took to the vet a week or two back to check if she had a id chip, she didn’t get an examination.
There wasn’t any scaling or itching or spots of redness. She seemed just fine besides the hair loss. Should I be concerned? What should I watch out for in my healthy cats? Could it contagious to humans?
get it to a vet ASAP and well it might be some type of skin parasite and i would try to keep your other cats seperate,avoid touching the cat as much as possible because it might be contagious.
